Looking Back at the Horn: A Moment of Pride in Holmdel

There are certain moments in public service that stay with you, not because of the headlines, but because of what they represent.

Standing at the base of the Holmdel Horn Antenna on Crawford Hill, I felt that in a very real way.

This isn’t just a structure. It’s a symbol. A reminder that right here in Holmdel, something extraordinary happened, something that helped humanity better understand the origins of the universe itself. It was at this very site that Dr. Robert Wilson and Dr. Arno Penzias made one of the most important scientific discoveries of the 20th century: the cosmic microwave background radiation, confirming the Big Bang theory.

But what made that day truly special for me was something more personal.

I had the honor of standing alongside Dr. Robert Wilson himself, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist whose work changed the course of science. Seeing him there, at the very place where that discovery was made decades ago, was powerful. It connected past and present in a way that’s hard to put into words.

There was a quiet humility about the moment. No grand spectacle, just a group of people who understood that we were standing on historic ground. A place that nearly disappeared, but instead was preserved because a community came together and said, “This matters.”

And it does matter.

As a member of the Township Committee, being part of the effort to protect and preserve the Horn Antenna is something I’ll always be proud of. Not just for what it represents scientifically, but for what it says about who we are as a community, that we value history, innovation, and the legacy we leave behind.

That day wasn’t just about dedicating a park.

It was about honoring curiosity. Discovery. And the idea that even in a quiet corner of New Jersey, you can change the way the world understands the universe.

And standing there, looking up at that antenna, I couldn’t help but feel incredibly proud to have played a small part in making sure that story continues to be told.

I'm really excited for this park opening to to bring my whole family and share this pivotal monument and experience with the Holmdel Holmdel Township community!
