As we recognize National Police Week, I want to take a moment to thank every law enforcement officer who serves and protects our community each and every day. Your courage, sacrifice, and commitment to keeping Holmdel safe do not go unnoticed, and our town is stronger because of you.

I also want to recognize another group of professionals who are too often unseen, but absolutely essential: our dispatchers and communications personnel.

Behind every emergency response is a dispatcher — the calm voice in the chaos, the person coordinating help, gathering information, protecting officers, and helping residents through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. They are truly the first first responders.

As conversations continue regarding the future of dispatch services and potential county-level changes, I believe it’s important that we approach these discussions thoughtfully, carefully, and with the community’s voice in mind.

There are valid points on all sides. Regional support can bring additional resources, staffing, and technology. But we must also recognize the tremendous value of local knowledge, local relationships, and the human connection that comes from having dispatchers who know our streets, our neighborhoods, our residents, and our community.

This is not simply about technology or budgets. It is about trust, responsiveness, and making sure that when someone calls for help, every second counts and every decision is made with the best possible understanding of our town.

I support exploring smart solutions for the future — but those solutions must protect what matters most:

  •  Fast response

  •  Strong communication

  •  Local understanding

  •  Human connection

To all of our police officers, dispatchers, first responders, and public safety professionals: thank you for your service, your dedication, and your sacrifice.

Happy National Police Week, Holmdel Township, especially to the Holmdel Township Police Department
